Nyanga Magic

I absolutely loved being a tourist in my own country and visiting beautiful Nyanga again. I had not been there since I was 12 years old, so to see it again years later, with a different perspective, was truly magical.

Zimbabwe has many hidden gems, but Nyanga is especially beautiful. It has a whimsical, fairy tale feel about it, and the chilly, but sunny days and the crisp air make you feel as though you are somewhere in the English countryside. It definitely has that out of Africa feel.

Even though I live in Harare, Zimbabwe, which is a small town, and by no means a concrete jungle, I was still in awe of how untouched Nyanga is. It is just miles upon miles of spacious, mountainous valleys that immediately put you at ease and allow you to breath deeper and relax. Driving into Nyanga was literally as good as doing a Yoga class.

In the heart of Nyanga there is a tiny little town, with a few basic shops, some quaint little cottages sprinkled here and there, and then a few hotels and lodges.

I was lucky enough to spend two nights at Troutbeck Resort, which is nestled in the mountains and pretty central to the Nyanga National Park, World’s View, and not far from Nyana Town. This gorgeous colonial inspired Hotel looks onto a lake (popular for its Trout fishing), and is surrounded by the manicured greens of the Troutbeck golf course, which makes it extremely picturesque as you can imagine.

The hotel is so well maintained, and the service was great. So, if you need to rest and recharge, just like I did, I can highly recommend going to Nyanga and staying at Troutbeck. I hope the photos help persuade you to go and spend some time there. My stay in Nyanga made me feel so patriotic about my home country and was truly good for the soul.

A view point on the way into Nyanga:

A morning walk around the Troutbeck Lake and Golf Course:

Nyanga National Park Sights:

Nyangombe Swimming Pool was a naturally formed swimming pool and beach that was perfect for a picnic and to sit and relax in between sight seeing.

Nyangombe Falls:

This was one of my favourite sights. There is just something breathtaking about a waterfall and the soothing sound of the water.

Word’s View:

World’s view was amazing. There was the option of sitting on the benches available, laying out your nibbles and relaxing while you watching the sun set, or you could hike to a higher point and see the view and watch the sun set from there. The hike was quite a challenge but it was so worth the effort because the view from the top was stunning.
